“World Meeting of Families” ~ by Katie (6th) and Róisín (5th)

Image result for wmofThis year World Meeting for Families is in Dublin, Ireland from 21st – 26th of August, this year the theme is “The Gospel of the Family Joy to the world.”

World Meeting for families takes place every three years in different places. It is an International Celebration for young and old.

World Meeting for Families started in 1984 when St. John Paul II asked the World Council for Families to come together to pray and celebrate from all around the world.
World Meeting for Families really is a brilliant way to spend time with your family and friends!

There have been 8 meetings so far:

  • This years theme is “The Gospel of the Family, Joy for the World.
  • The first World Meeting of Families was held in 1994, in Rome, Italy.
  • The second World Meeting of Families was held in 1997, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
  • The third World Meeting of Families was held in 2000, in Rome, Italy.
  • The fourth World meeting of Families was held in 2003, in Manila, Philippines.
  • The fifth World Meeting of Families was held in 2006, in Valencia, Spain.
  • The sixth World Meeting of Families was held in 2009, in Mexico City, Mexico.
  • The seventh World Meeting of Families was held in 2012, in Milan, Italy.
  • The eighth World Meeting Families was held in 2015, in Philadelphia, United States.
  • The most recent World of Families is being held in 2018, in Dublin, Ireland.
