“Rocks” ~ a report by Jack and Éabha (4th)


On Monday our class learned about rocks. There are three groups of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. Igneous rocks are formed when magma cools and hardens beneath the Earth’s crust.Sedimentary rocks have been squashed under a great weight for millions of years. Limestone is an example. Metamorphic rocks are formed when igneous or sedimentary rocks are changed by heat or pressure. Gemstones are also a type of rock. They are very rare and valuable. Sometimes you can make jewellery out of them. Space rocks are also very intresting. Meteors, comets and asteroids are space rocks.
  We also did an experiment. We tested if rocks were magnetic and rubbed them with coins. We all had a great time and it was a very good day. The next day so many people  brought in projects. They were all impressive.
