Horses had many uses to a farmer such as carrying things, produce, supplies and people to and from the farm as well as pull ploughs and trailers.

At the time it was a huge status symbol to own a horse and often times horses would be shared with neighboring farms, in Ireland this practice was called “comhar” which means partnership.
