The British Government found the need to tax colonies in North America to raise the money they needed to govern them
They taxed things like newspapers and playing cards they called it the Stamp Act.
The colonists did not agree so refused to pay these taxes and eventually the British Government gave up on the Stamp Act.
Instead they decided to create and import tax where they taxed items such as glass, paper and paint.
In 1773 colonists in Boston Massachusetts dumped a load of tea off a British ship instead of paying their taxes, this was the start of a rebellion and that day is known as the Boston Tea Party.
